  • Updating 'converted' chinese version

    Hello,
I have received a chinese version of the MX6 (I guess, seeing the box and the model version M685Q on the box).
It has been ‘converted’ to an international version (I see the model M685H in the settings and I have a ‘G’ firmware (5.2.2.3G).
I bought it because they said OTA update was supported, but it is not the case.
Is it safe to update the device manually by copying the latest ‘G’ firmware (5.2.4.0G) to the device and booting in recovery mode ?
    Thanks for any feedback !

  • Yes, meizu made it safer to flash update.zip through recovery but there is still a risk of it failing due to lack of power or luck. I have done this over 5 times, without failing.

  • Thank you for the fast answer !
Just to be sure, the question was more about putting an international firmware (G) on a chinese version that has been tricked to believe it is an international version…

I don’t know how they do that, but they made the version M685Q believe it is a M685H version. Then they put an international firmware and then they block the OTA update (for a reason, so I was not sure about putting a new international firmware, even manually)

  • For your information, it doesn’t work.
I have tried to manually update with the two latest firmwares but I get a ‘Firmware corrupt’ message. Not because the firmware is corrupt, but because it is a chinese version of the phone, and if I understand correctly, there is a check on the IMEI to be sure to install the chinese firmware on the chinese version. The seller has done some tricks to bypass that but now the updates are blocked.

Should I switch to the chinese firmwares (the system in English is ok for me) ? I don’t want to stay with the first firmware of the phone, but at the same time, I don’t want to do risky things…

  • For the record, I have been able to install a Chinese firmware manually (by downloading it directly on the device).
The OS can be in Chinese or in English.
There is no Google Play Services nor app to install it, so I’ve had to download Google Installer from the Meizu App Store.
I’ve also had to delete some bloatware, but except this, my device is like I wanted it to be (OS in English, keyboard in French, OTA updates).

Hi, how did you install/go back to the original Chinese ver? Is there any steps or you just downloaded the “update.zip” and flash it? Thank you!!!
I’m asking because i have the same problem like you, I bought a phone that the seller already “convert” to global firmware with no OTA.

  • I downloaded the firmware from flyme.cn directly ( http://flyme.cn/firmwarelist-66.html#3 ) on the device and put it in the root, then I launched the update.zip file. I chose to clean the data and then it rebooted and installed the chinese / english firmware.

Beware that there are differences between the firmwares, like many chinese programs that are added (you can uninstall most of them), or the Google services that are not present (you can go in the Meizu app store and look for Google Installer).

If you look at https://forum.meizufans.eu/topic/7176/german-meizu-mx6-update-doesn-t-work it seems the user was able to update.
